THE WINES OF SAINT-ÉMILION ARE MORE ORIENTED TOWARDS ASIA

The month of December was punctuated by memorable moments for the Saint-Emilion wines that travelled throughout Asia to meet their wine lovers.

 

OPENING OF TWO NEW CHANCELLERIES OF THE JURADE OF SAINT-ÉMILION IN SINGAPORE AND KUALA LUMPUR

The Chancelleries are the embassies of Saint-Emilion wines in the world. The creation of a Chancellery is always a historic moment for the wines of Saint-Emilion and the bonds of friendship they maintain with the host country.

GALA DINNER IN SINGAPORE

On November 29, a gala dinner celebrated the opening of the Chancellery of the Jurade of Saint-Emilion in Singapore in the presence of Melvin Choo, its Chancellor and former car champion, professional golfer, TV commentator but also a great wine enthusiast and Saint-Emilion lover.

Also a photographer, five photographs of Melvin were auctioned off for the benefit of the Viva association, which works to save children with cancer, conducts research and accompanies patients in their treatment.

The Jurats inducted seven personalities involved in the promotion of Saint-Emilion wines in Singapore who will travel to Saint-Emilion in June 2019 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Jurisdiction’s inscription on the World Heritage List. A news to follow!

THREE DAYS OF SHARING AND EMOTION IN KUALA LUMPUR

On December 1, the Jurade of Saint-Emilion travelled to Malaysia for the opening of a new Chancellery in Kuala Lumpur, a ceremony at which Chancellor Chris Low, a hotel professional trained in sommellerie and a great connoisseur of Bordeaux wines, welcomed 140 guests. 14 personalities were inducted on this occasion, including the French Ambassador Frédéric Laplanche, who became Pair de la Jurade. The Chancellery has also announced the creation of a fund to finance sommelier studies for disadvantaged students. During the evening, the sale of several lots of wines raised more than 9000 euros to launch this project.

The Jurade then went to the Batu Caves, an incredible site that includes a series of caves and the largest Hindu sanctuary outside India. An unusual site evoking the monolithic church of Saint-Emilion for the Chancellor. The opportunity for the Jurats to put on the robe for the great pleasure and amazement of the Malaysians who came to visit this site, also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A photo exhibition of Saint-Emilion was then opened in the Centre Culturel d’Art Oriental (OACC) in Kuala Lumpur, which hosted a wine tasting with some thirty local distributors in a modern, historical and mystical atmosphere.

10TH WINE TRIP IN CHINA FOR SAINT-EMILION - POMEROL – FRONSAC WINES

For the 10th consecutive year, the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac have organized their wine trip to China, to the east and by the sea to Xiamen, Hangzhou and Dalian.

After having visited many cities in China over the past ten years, the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac wished in 2018 to develop relations with cities that are usually less visited and yet just as important as large cities such as Beijing or Shanghai.

– Xiamen is a very attractive tourist centre, it is the 5th largest city in China for the consumption of wines and spirits.

– Hangzhou represents one third of national wine consumption and it increases by more than 80% each year

– Dalian is in the TOP10 of the best annual sales of wine from China

In three days in China, nearly 500 people were trained, 750 people were able to exchange ideas during the tasting between professionals and 25 journalists met the delegation.

 

As a reminder, the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac and Pu’Er teas have been paired since 2012 and regularly celebrate their links and similarities. At the end of 2016, an exhibition on the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac was opened in the Pu’Er National Tea Museum. In two years, more than 220,000 visitors have been able to discover the production and culture of wines from the right bank of Bordeaux in this cultural centre located in the heart of Yunnan.
