This wine lover reflects back on this emotional link which binds Saint-Emilion wines to those who love them.
EXPERIENCES AND EMOTION WITH SAINT-EMILION
A wine enthusiast for a long time, Claudio de Villemor Salgado started his career as a sommelier. Settled in Asia more than twenty years ago, he tasted his first Saint-Emilion wine in Singapore (“I really liked it”). Now a Hong Kong inhabitant, Claudio de Villemor Salgado had his best experience there, four years ago with Saint-Emilion wines. During the first edition of the Saint-Emilion Jurade Gala dinner, as the sommeliers team was not there, he had to “take care of the tasting of about 600 wine bottles in the afternoon, just with one other person”. “A great experience”, he confesses.
WHEN SAINT-EMILION IS A SOURCE OF SENSATIONS
If Saint-Emilion provides so many emotions to Claudio de Villemor Salgado just like to other enthusiasts, it is because those wines cannot be forgotten. This luxury hotel industry specialist underlines the quality of a unique land and the cépages, “Merlot and Cabernet Franc, very specific to Saint-Emilion wines”. Moreover, different Saint-Emilion appellations offer very expressive entry-level wines as well as big wines that need about ten years of patience. All this enables, he says, a “wide range of opportunities to drink them”. Wines synonymous to conviviality and joie de vivre, “happiness” wines, he concludes.
