Mark Price, General Director of the Waitrose supermarkets, is a fine lover of France and its wines. The British man does not hesitate to tell us about his affection for Saint-Emilion wines.
A LONG-DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP WITH SAINT-EMILION
When he was 18 and studying archeology, the young Mark Price crossed the channel for the first time and discovered France. “I was lucky to end up in the Bordeaux region where I tasted Bordeaux wines for the first time, Saint-Emilion wines in particular”. It’s the start of a love story between the businessman and the pretty village of Saint-Emilion that has lasted for about forty years now “I come back every year to taste Saint-Emilion wines, and each year each sip reminds me of the passion, the effort and the know-how that each producer brings to their wine”.
THE ENTRY INTO THE JURADE, A TRUE AND UNEXPECTED JOY
This year, the Saint-Emilion Jurade had the honor to welcome Mark Price as a new member. He could not hide his happiness at joining the brotherhood. “I did not even request to become a member. It really was an honor and a unique emotion to discover that I had been nominated then accepted.” Mark Price tell us that if he has a unique bond with Saint-Emilion, the United Kingdom globally has a strong link with the village “more than seven hundred years ago, England controlled Saint-Emilion, loved its wine and protected its region. Today, I’m honored to represent those historical places with the Jurade”.
