The Saint-Émilion Jurade inducted Sting at the inauguration of Château Monlot, property owned by the Chinese actress Zhao Wei on 6 April 2018, after extensive renovation work.
Nothing had been left to chance for the inauguration of Château Monlot: red carpet, pyrotechnic show, mapping on the castle retracing the history of the vineyard, choir members and artists strolling during the cocktail and dinner prepared by the three-star chef at Georges V in Paris Christian Le Squer. An event that matches Château Monlot’s ambitions to take the 8-hectare property in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru to the highest level of Saint-Emilion’s estates.
To enhance the evening, Zhao Wei had invited her friend and distinguished guest: the singer Sting. The Jurade, which had inducted the actress in 2012, had the pleasure of inducting Sting on this occasion. The emblematic singer of the group Police, who has enjoyed enormous success in his solo career, is also a great defender of the environment (co-founder of the rainforest foundation) and a wine enthusiast. In 1995, he and his wife Trudie Styler bought Il Palagio, a Tuscan estate, for which he produces white, rosé and red wines in accordance with organic farming, including a vintage called “Message in a Bottle”. He took back this world-famous title during the evening at Château Monlot, dressed with the epitoge of the Jurade on his shoulder, to the delight of the guests. An exceptional moment, timeless, where emotion was palpable among the guests aware of the chance to attend a unique moment: like a cry of love for the wines of Saint-Emilion and their winegrowers.
