Former rugby player who converted to the financial world, Thomas Castaignède took up residence in London. He tells us how our English friends perceive the wines of Saint-Emilion.
THE VALUES OF SAINT-EMILION
More than wine, it is beer that is commended on the other side of the Channel. Yet Thomas Castaignède tells us he has observed, for some time, a certain transformation in our neighbors, “you should know that the English enjoy beautiful things, tradition and history”. Thus, the French envoy to the country of Shakespeare noted that “they are not necessarily all wines connoisseurs but they appreciate their values”. Values he himself associates with Saint-Emilion wines “despite the differences between the plots, winemaking methods, the wine producers are all driven by the same passion”.
THE BALANCE OF THE SAINT-EMILION WINES
If our English friends are putting out more and more wine, Thomas Castaignède, meanwhile, knows the Saint-Emilion wines well, “Initially, I discovered the wines of Saint-Emilion through meals, thanks to their reputation “. It is whilst visiting the village for the first time that he realized the true extent of this wine civilization: “What I identified as a simple luxury value was actually hiding the diversity of the châteaux, from the larger ones to the smallest and each other’s complementarity”. “This creates a balance between the Crus, where conviviality is common to each production”. Cheers!
