The Saint-Emilion Jurisdiction has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural landscapes. Preserving these landscapes is therefore an essential challenge.
The plantation of hedges and trees is a major way of reinforcing biodiversity in the landscape, establishing ecological corridors, improving soil quality and protecting watercourses. These plantings also contribute to the well-being of the local community.
From the inventory and mapping of species and agro-ecological infrastructures existing in our appellations, to the creation of green corridors in partnership with the Juridiction’s communes, and experimental plant nurseries, Saint-Emilion wines are involved in a variety of initiatives designed to bring to life and preserve these living landscapes, so precious and known the world over.
The winegrowers of Saint-Emilion have decided to create their own plant nursery. A collective project that helps each individual winegrower. With the passage of time, human activity and climate change, it is essential to maintain and develop the trees, hedges and forests that make up the richness of our cultural landscapes. Through this plant nursery, our winegrowers make a daily commitment to the development of local species. This experimental project enables the cultivation of seedlings and cuttings of trees, hedges, fruit trees, etc., which winegrowers can collect and plant on their plots for a variety of uses. Vines need fertility, and to obtain it naturally, local flora and fauna, herbaceous species and trees, will accompany and fortify them.
