A stage was be set up in the heart of the moat of the Cardinal Palace and was host two free concerts on SATURDAY 29 JUNE, offered by the Saint-Émilion Jazz Festival.

21H30 - KID CRÉOLE AND THE COCONUTS

At the beginning, there was a vision, the vision of a multicultural carnival without stylistic boundaries; the vision of a colourful theatre with fascinating characters; the vision of a joyful and exuberant lifestyle, full of irony, humour and sophistication. The visionary was August Darnell, born in the Bronx. Kid Creole and the Coconuts was born from Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. In the 1970s, the Savannah Band had successfully merged the sound of the big band of the 1940s (Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Louis Prima) with the dancefloor of the disco era. August Darnelle then created Kid Creole and The Coconuts in 1981 and incorporated a touch of sunshine into his music - calypso, soca, salsa, rhythm and blues, soul, jazz, funk, hiphop, etc... with a strong Caribbean accent. 38 years later, the man and his group are still synonymous with adventure and escape... An adventure to live in Saint-Emilion and which promises a rhythmic, sunny, exceptional show!

The exhibition "Sailing Wines, a Bordeaux History", made available by Bordeaux Grands Evénements, will retrace the great moments in the history of Bordeaux wines.

A series of conferences about the cultural landscapes of Saint-Emilion and its biodiversity was be held in partnership with associations of the Jurisdiction and the Saint-Emilion Wine Council.

Saturday 11:00 am: "UNESCO's World Heritage Sites", by Mr Jean Audouze (astrophysicist, Director of Research Emeritus at the CNRS, Honorary President of the French National Commission for UNESCO, President of "Terre de Montaigne"), in partnership with the Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie de Saint-Emilion;

Saturday 17:00pm: “Between evolution, preservation and transmission: meeting of minds”: round table / debate with the representatives of other unlisted vineyards (guest vineyards: Champagne, Burgundy, Loire Valley, Lavaux, High Douro and Tokaj) supported by the association Juridiction de Saint-Emilion and the Conseil des Vins de Saint-Emilion;

Sunday 6pm: "Terroirs of the world and cultural landscapes” supported by Le Barde du Label.

In addition to the Châteaux Open Doors during the weekend, the appellations of Lussac Saint-Emilion and Puisseguin Saint-Emilion was joined the celebration on a day of festivities over the weekend.

The visitor was discovered the exceptional cultural landscapes of the Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion through the 20 exceptional points of view from the reading tables created as part of the 20th anniversary.

Groups can walk along various routes. During the day, "Philosophy" walks was be organized, as well as "Heritage" walks that was allow you to see the Jurisdiction outside the beaten track.

Heritage Walks

In the company of historian and lecturer-guide David Souny, the visitor could discovered the Jurisdiction and its built, natural or cultural heritage. The Saint-Emilion region is full of sites that testify to the diversity of this cultural landscape, shaped by Man over the centuries.

11:00 am: Stroll around the Menhir de Pierrefitte (Saint-Sulpice-De-Faleyrens)

A monumental witness of prehistory in the region, the Pierrefitte menhir also materializes the location of the medieval port of Saint-Emilion. The visit was started at the foot of the menhir and then reached the banks of the Dordogne.

Get off the beaten track... to discover unknown districts and monuments of Saint-Émilion. From Porte Brunet, the tour was descended to Place Bouqueyre to join the Madeleine plateau to offer two exceptional and opposite views of the city and its surroundings.

11:30 am: In the heart of the rock (Saint-Hippolyte)

From the church of Saint-Hippolyte, the walk was taken you to the caves of Ferrand. Built at the end of the 17th century on the edge of the limestone plateau, they are a life-size decoration to the glory of Louis XIV and literary legends of the time. A magical site!

16h00 : Under the vine... a city! (Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse)

Standing on the edge of the plateau overlooking the village of Saint-Etienne de Lisse, the Croix de Tourans offers a wide panoramic view of the Dordogne valley. To achieve this, the walking loop was offered you views of the ancient oppidum of Niord and the terraces of Château de Pressac, two high places in the history of the Saint-Emilion region...
