WANT TO DISCOVER ORGANIC VITICULTURE IN A CHÂTEAU IN SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU APPELLATION?

From 1st to 3rd May 2015, the Lavau family welcomes you to the estate, with many activities for the whole family and a bonus food-truck for your meals.

CHÂTEAU BERNATEAU, ORGANIC FARMING

For eight generations, the Lavaus have respected the terroir of Saint-Emilion vineyards. In addition to Château Bernateau, which is located in the Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse municipality, the family owns Château Tour Peyronneau, also in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. “This is a family story, my in-laws work with me and my husband”

says Karine Lavau who is responsible for developing wine tourism. Since 2012, the 20 hectares of fields of Lavau are organically operated. “We were already in a reasoned farming perspective”, says Karine Lavau, “Organic is an extra step to protect our land and continue to make quality wines as we currently do”.

DISCOVER GREAT WINES AT CHÂTEAU BERNATEAU

For Saint-Emilion Portes Ouvertes 2015, the key aspects for the Lavau family are “Friendliness, fun and discovery”. Karine Lavau will also enjoy directing the visits. This former teacher and researcher in science has her pedagogique side intact: “I do the tours to make visitorsdiscover or rediscover our wines, our land and our know-how, while respecting the environment”.

Therefore, the work on the vineyard, the winemaking and the farming will hold no secrets for you, as well as all the subtleties of Château Bernateau wines produced on a typical clay and limestone terroir of Saint-Emilion. For the tasting, Karine Lavau tells us “that there will be three Grands Crus to discover. A ten-year-old wine to start with, a newer one and the first organic vintage of the estate”. An interesting panel to start learning about the richness of Saint-Emilion wines.

FOOD TRUCK AND BLIND TASTINGS

During the Saint Emilion Portes Ouvertes, the Lavau family also offers entertainment for all. You are in a hurry and greedy? A food-truckwill be installed at Château Bernateau, allowing to combine quality burgers and tasting of Crus. Are you a gamer? A blind tasting will let novices and advanced amateur to compete. You are a connoisseur?

A photo exhibition on the life of the vine is offered. Finally, you have children? Karine Lavau knows the importance of proposing activities adapted to the little ones. Children can take part in a coloring workshop and a workshop dedicated to discovering the vines.
