On January 31st, 2022, at the end of the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion, 24 crus were named “Coups de Cœur 2022” by a jury of professionals! Château La Rose Perrière, a Lussac Saint-Emilion, was one of the winners. Claire SYLVAIN CARIOTI, 38, is the owner. Find out more about this winemaker and her wine!

What is your role on the estate?

I joined my father, Jean-Luc, in managing the vineyard in 2015. Since then, I’ve overseen property management, marketing and communication for the vineyard, as well as the wine tourism business.

With the technical team, I carry out the various tastings and validate the blends. I also prepare the various research trials carried out in the vineyard.

You are one of the 24 "Coups de Cœur 2022" of Saint-Emilion Wines. How do you feel about it?

"It's a great source of pride for us that our Château La Rose Perrière was selected Coup de Coeur by the tasters during this blind tasting. A great recognition for our wine over 3 vintages!"

Can you tell us a little about your estate?

Château La Rose Perrière was, in the Middle Ages, a monastery of monks who cleared the land. They planted the first vines on the limestone hillside. The vineyard, one of the oldest in the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation, extends over 14 hectares, including 10.5 hectares of vines planted in a single block, all of them red varieties. The sunny property enjoys a remarkable location and benefits from a limestone subsoil whose outcropping bedrock is covered by a loose clay-limestone layer no more than 30 cm thick. Jean-Luc, my father, bought Château La Rose Perrière in 2003. He undertook a major renovation of the winery, storage buildings and vineyard.

You have to go back 4 generations to understand the origins of our family’s passion for wine and wood. It was from my great-grandfather, Pierre, that my father’s passion was born. In 1961, my great-grandfather acquired his first vines. Now, thanks to family know-how, part of the family works to produce wines of exceptional quality. For some years now, my brother and I have been following in our father’s footsteps. We contribute our stone to the edifice both at Tonnellerie Sylvain and in the vineyards. United by the same passion, we work together to produce wines that reflect who we are.

Our HVE-certified teams carry out their daily work with the constant aim of reducing environmental impact and maintaining and developing biodiversity in and around the vineyards. The vineyard has been awarded level 3 HVE certification and is currently undergoing organic conversion.

The unusual element:

Our family are coopers. Tastings on the theme of barrels can be organized during visits to the estate.

Can you tell us about the winning vintage?

Château La Rose Perrière is made from parcels located on the estate’s plateau. Vinification in 500 L barrels ensures a subtle marriage of fruit and wood, while preserving parcel selection. This wine is distinguished by its aromatic complexity of ripe fruit and spices. The fatness and silky tannins give it great seduction.

Can you suggest a food and wine pairing with the winning cru?

Château Tour de Pressac goes very well with duck aiguillettes with honey.
