What is your role at the property?

I’m in charge of sales for our family’s properties. My main tasks are to promote and sell our wines, lead our network of customers, manage the sales team and take part in trade fairs, tastings and events. In this way, I get to meet our customers around the world and help them discover our wines and our history.

You are one of the 24 "Coups de Cœur 2022" of Saint-Emilion Wines. How do you feel about this?

"It's very interesting to be compared with what's being done by our neighbours in Saint-Emilion. It gives us a good idea of our position in the appellation."

Can you tell us a bit about your estate?

Major work has been carried out both in the vineyard and in the winery to restore this historic estate, which was bought by our family in 2001. Located in the commune of St-Etienne-de-Lisse, to the east of the village of Saint-Emilion, the 5.5 hectare vineyard is planted at the foot of the appellation’s famous plateau.

The property is planted exclusively with Merlot.

The legend of Château Jacques Noir

According to legend, this castle was originally the lair of a warlike and unscrupulous hobereau. He owed his nickname “Le Noir” to his armour and his nocturnal exactions. This is where he stayed with his henchmen, winegrowers or soldiers by day and brigands by night.

The label still includes this detail of the knight.

Can you tell us about the winning vintage?

Colour: Bright ruby

Nose: Delicate, almost caressing, combining red fruit aromas with toasty notes.

Palate: The attack is both round and woody, revealing good body and a balanced structure underpinned by mellow tannins. Lingering notes of strawberry and blackberry add freshness and elegance to the finish.

Can you suggest a food and wine pairing with the winning wine?

Château Jacques Noir goes very well with grilled red meats, game and sauces. You can also enjoy it with slightly spicy dishes, cheese or chocolate desserts.

Final word

"We make wines that are like us, wines that we want to drink, elegant, fruity, gourmet wines".
