Every year, the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion honors 24 winners.
These men and women work day after day to produce wines that live up to the quality and environmental commitment of Saint-Emilion wines.
Discover the portraits of these properties in Lussac Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, as well as Grands Crus Classés.
Today, Claire Sylvain-Carioti, daughter and granddaughter of winegrowers, introduces us to Château La Rose Perrière, which has already won several awards.
This is the oldest estate in the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation! Château La Rose Perrière is a must-see.
And with good reason: it has won the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion several times.
Claire Sylvain-Carioti is once again on hand to present the estate.
I’m in charge of overseeing the property. I joined my family at Château La Rose Perrière in 2015 and since then I’ve been involved in all the tastings, research and development, the work carried out around biodiversity on the property, marketing…
I’d say the love for good things, research and development and biodiversity.
The love for good things is the basis for making great wines, quality wines.
Research is essential for us: it’s very important to work on all the different parts, but especially on the wood. We’re a highly developed testing center, largely due to our cooperage business.
And finally, biodiversity, because in recent years we’ve been working a lot on all the benefits it can bring to the vineyard and, by extension, to the wines. We have beehives, goats and chickens on the estate, but we’ve also worked on agroforestry, planting hedges and fruit trees. We also take into account the management of water resources. All these aspects bring life to the vineyard and thus add complexity to the wines.
My father acquired this property in 2003, but my grandfather already had vines, so I’m finally the 3rd generation of winegrower.
Since acquiring La Rose Perrière, we’ve carried out extensive work, replanting 40% of the vineyard, working on agroforestry and biodiversity, as well as research and development into wood ageing.
There’s more than just one special feature of our estate! For example, one of the particularities of La Rose Perrière is that it’s the oldest property in the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation: that says a lot about our history and the heritage we continue to nurture year after year.
We also stand out from other Châteaux for our strong commitment to biodiversity and agroforestry.
And last but not least, we’re a cooper family. We therefore carry out a great deal of research into the adaptation of wood and wine, as well as a great deal of work on ageing in wood.
We also have a large clay-limestone terroir with a beautiful plateau, which helps to nourish and benefit the vines.
What’s unique is that we both wear the hat of winemaker and cooper. This is a real advantage when it comes to making wines: it allows us to innovate and try new things. We’ve been perfecting our knowledge of wood and wine pairing for generations.
Château La Rose Perrière can be enjoyed on any occasion: it’s a wine that can be kept for 15 to 20 years like a truly great wine, but it can also be enjoyed younger, after 4-5 years. Rose Perrière is a wine that adapts to different ways of drinking
Now that I’ve blended my culture with my husband’s Italian culture, I recommend enjoying a Château La Rose Perrière with matriciana pasta or any other Italian dish in sauce.
We take part in the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion to gain visibility, but also to challenge ourselves. It’s a way of maintaining our quality, and the proof is that this isn’t the first time we’ve won.
It’s obviously a source of great pride for us, and reassuring to see that, year after year, we continue to please consumers and meet their expectations.
Enjoy your tasting! And we look forward to seeing you at Château La Rose Perrière, for a visit and tasting or to stay directly at the estate!
