2024 Favourites – Château Rol Valentin
Château Rol Valentin is one of the new wine estates to be included in the 2022 classification of Saint-Emilion Grand Crus Classés. A fine reward for this family-run estate, which in recent years has won a number of prestigious awards in addition to the Coup de Coeur de la Coupe des Crus!
Nicolas and Alexandra, the owners of this family-run estate, tell us more about their wines, the various activities they offer (including one for which they recently won a Best of Wine Tourism award!) and reveal their favourite food and wine pairing for Château Rol Valentin.
Alexandra: I’m in charge of marketing, among other things, as well as wine tourism at the estate and administration.
Nicolas: And I look after all the technical side of Château Rol Valentin.
Château Rol Valentin in 3 words: elegance, structure and sexiness!
At Rol Valentin, we work in new, fairly recent facilities dating from 2020, in a gravity-fed cellar.
In addition to this rather special cellar, we work exclusively with large 400-litre barrels. Finally, some of the wine is matured in egg-shaped vats, which are large, rough concrete vats.
At Château Rol Valentin, we offer a wide range of wine tourism workshops.
These workshops are very diverse: we have traditional tours with tastings, as well as more elaborate workshops to help customers discover grape varieties, with a blending workshop. We also offer a rather gourmet workshop to help people discover wine from other angles, with a wine and chocolate pairing workshop. For wine connoisseurs, we offer tastings of several vintages, and for those who have the time, we can organise a picnic or gourmet tasting with a platter of fresh local produce.
In addition to the above-mentioned workshops, we have created a unique wine-tourism offer: the “verres-tigineux” workshop! This is an opportunity for visitors to discover just how much the shape of the glass affects the taste of a wine, both in the mouth and on the nose.
It was for this workshop that we won the 2024 Golden Trophy Best of Wine Tourism in the “Discovery and Innovation” category!
Château Rol Valentin wines can be drunk young, from 3-4 years. But if you have a cellar and the right conditions in which to store it, this is a wine that can be aged for a good twenty years.
I like it with a rib of beef or a duck breast, grilled with vine shoots of course! And as a side dish, a pan of potatoes and mushrooms.
We’ve been taking part in the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion for a number of years now and have won several times. It’s a good way of challenging ourselves with wines from our AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru to see just how good Château Rol Valentin is.
Winning this award again in 2024 is a great source of pride for us and our teams. It underlines all the work we’ve done this year and over the last 10 years, which has led to our inclusion in the 2022 classification of Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés.
