As usual, the Primeurs week is an opportunity for the winegrowers of our appellations to present the fruit of their latest vintage. In Saint-Emilion, it is the wines of the Saint-Émilion – Pomerol – Fronsac organic group (10 appellations: Saint-Emilion, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Lussac Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, Fronsac, Canon Fronsac, Montagne Saint-Emilion, Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande de Pomerol) that are on show to the wine industry professionals.
It’s the ideal opportunity for professionals (oenologists, buyers, merchants, etc.) to get an idea of the new vintage. So, what does the 2024 vintage of Saint-Emilion wines have in store?

The Primeurs week is a Bordeaux tradition, deeply rooted in the Gironde wine industry, which allows buyers to reserve wines before they are bottled. Usually in mid-April, wine merchants, cellarmen, restaurants, etc. travel to the various appellations to taste the new vintage and assess its ageing potential.
This period also allows winegrowers to finance their production and offer buyers attractive prices.
This year, the event for the wines of Saint-Emilion – Pomerol – Fronsac took place from April 14th to 16th, in the Salle des Dominicains, in Saint-Emilion, with a new format offering the opportunity to taste both the 2024 vintage en Primeur and the 2022 vintage en Livrable.

The 2024 vintage has turned out to be a wonderful surprise, thanks to the determination and resilience of the teams who were able to magnify each plot in the vineyard, despite the turbulent weather. This cool year produced a light, beautifully coloured wine with a lower alcohol content.
Although climatic conditions were not always easy, the 2024 vintage will be remembered for the high rainfall between October 2023 and May 2024 (1095 mm accumulated from October to May compared with 750 mm on average) and milder temperatures than the 1991-2020 norms, except in May and June. The hot, dry summer enabled the grapes to reach balanced ripeness.
With reduced production and an average yield of 35hl/ha, our AOC wines are beautifully ripe, but not over-ripe, naturally low in alcohol, fresh, aromatic, very colourful and well-structured. They have a smooth, supple texture.
In this vintage, there is never any bitterness, harshness or astringency.
After all the effort and chaotic weather conditions, the reward is salient. The wines all share a profile that largely corresponds to consumer expectations: intense fruit, smooth body, drinkability and pleasure.
