Men and Women

Stéphane Puyol from Château Barberousse

Once again this year, the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion is honouring 24 winners.

These men and women work day after day to produce wines that live up to the quality and environmental commitment of Saint-Emilion wines.

Find out more about these properties in Lussac Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, as well as the Grands Crus Classés.

Today, the spotlight is on Château Barberousse, a Saint-Emilion, with the portrait of its Swiss Army knife winemaker, Stéphane PUYOL.

What is your role on the property ?

My role on the estate is ambivalent. I’m the link between our different areas: the vineyard, the cellar and the office.

Can you tell us about your property ?

The Château Barberousse, is a small family estate in Saint-Emilion. We are HEV3  certified. What’s special about our Château is that we use ancestral manual techniques to release the aromas and flavors of the red wines we make. Another advantage: some of our cuvées are 100% Merlot.

YOU'RE ONE OF SAINT-EMILION WINES' 24 "COUPS DE CŒUR 2024". HOW DO YOU FEEL?

"Winning this award was an immense source of pride for me. I'm thinking in particular of the work put in by the whole team, and for them and for us it's a real reward."

Can you tell us more about Château Barberousse?

Our award-winning wine can be summed up in three words: typicity, family and simplicity.
We vinify our wines using only the pigeage method.
For us, the Coupe des Crus is above all a good exercise which allows us to measure ourselves against other estates.

Can you suggest a food and wine pairing with your wine?

We recommend that you enjoy this wine in 5 to 8 years, with a fine piece of beef.

Do you have something to add?

Barberousse is a typical Saint-Emilion estate, a family-run property with its own particular strengths, which we invite you to discover by tasting our wines.
