ARCHIBALD AND IVANHOÉ JOHNSTON, FROM NATH JOHNSTON ET FILS WINE MERCHANTS

SAINT-EMILION ON THE FINGERTIPS

In the Johnston household, wine has been a family affair for many centuries: “We were brought up with wines, and Saint-Emilion is one of those”. And the least we can say is that Archibald and Ivanhoé Johnston developed a detailed knowledge of these wines: “We can not summarize Saint-Emilion wines, there are so many terroirs  and hence many types of wine”. These two wine lovers could spend hours chatting about the  good wines of our region, “there are very powerful wines on the clay-limestone plateau, and more delicate ones in the Graves”. But if the Saint-Emilion are many and various, certain values bring them together: “there is a great aromatic palette offered in Saint-Emilion, always around Merlot, indulgence, and Cabernet Franc which brings a sleek and spicy side “.

SAINT-EMILION ON THE FINGERTIPS

Knowledge of the Johnston brothers also extends to culture. Hence, when discussing the wines of Saint-Emilion, Archibald spontaneously compares them to artworks. ” The Saint-Emilion are a bit like a Botero, as a nice, round woman”. His brother, Ivanhoé, meanwhile finds architectural metaphors: “there is always movement in Saint-Emilion, it never ends, it’s like the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona! We look for new things, new ways of harvesting, to research”. Just inducted into the Jurade, Archibald and Ivanhoé Johnston brothers rejoice in their new status as ambassadors: “It is a pleasure to be inducted into this community which purpose is to promote the wines of Saint-Emilion”. A recognition for these two brothers who work on promoting those wines everyday.
