This Saint-Emilionnaise through adoption is a key figure in the Bordeaux region. First associated with the left bank, Sylvie Cazes has since crossed the Garonne. The President of the future Cité des Civilisations du vin Association speaks warmly of Saint-Emilion.
THE SOLIDARITY OF THE SAINT-EMILION WINEMAKERS
“I’ve always loved Saint-Emilion, there is a lot of charm, freshness and excitement in this place”. Sylvie Cazes has not grown up in the vineyards of Saint-Emilion, but she has learned to love them as much as its inhabitants. “I was really welcomed on my arrival! There is quickly a feeling of brotherhood and solidarity”. And it is this generosity that comes to mind when asked about the values held by these wines: “Saint-Emilion wines are recognized around the four corners of the world. They represent the fairness, respect for the terroirs and the warmth: these are wines that we share with pleasure”.
SAINT-EMILION, THE FLASH OF GENIUS
Who or what can Saint-Emilion wines be compared to? Sylvie Cazes chooses Montaigne, writer and philosopher, Mayor of Bordeaux during the Renaissance. “He was a genius, a great writer but above all a visionary. In Saint-Emilion, it is the same: we work our tradition with seriousness and sometimes there is a novelty, a flash of genius”. Inspired by the timelessness of Saint-Emilion, Sylvie Cazes discusses the Cité des Civilisations du Vin, which will open in Bordeaux in 2016. “Anouk Legendre, the architect, is also very similar to Saint-Emilion wines. She has a new, very creative side and at the same time she works with noble and ancestral material”. Between human contact and pleasure of tasting, Sylvie Cazes loves to share her passion for Saint-Emilion wines.
