BLIND TASTING OF THE SAINT-EMILION WINES, NEW SENSATIONS

image

THESE SUMMER SESSIONS WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE TERROIR, GRAPE VARIETIES, HISTORY AND TASTING OF THE 4 SAINT-EMILION APPELLATIONS.

Until 28th August 2016, La Maison du Vin de Saint-Emilion , organizes each morning tasting teachings. These summer sessions will help you understand the terroir, grape varieties, history and tasting of the 4 Saint-Emilion appellations. To taste, you have to listen to your senses. Why not hide the label to better achieve this?

ENJOY WHILST HIDING THE LABEL

When you see the label of a bottle, you are influenced by the name and by the appellation. If you are a little more expert, by the vintage as well. Even when as a professional, trying to disregard the label, you sample according to what is on it“.

Frédérick Breysse, sommelier and trainer.

How then to taste wine with the least information possible? During the summer sessions, Frederick Breysse would like to propose an experiment: hide the label.

I blind-tasted a lot of wines, I find it really interesting. The brain works differently. This will make the memory work. It retains more some flavors of the wine“.

COVER THE BOTTLE WITH A CLOTH
Not to be conditioned, you have to hide the container. Slide your bottle in a cloth and also cut-out the capsule. How many wines should you taste? This blind session can be done with a single Saint-Emilion appellations wine. The ideal is to have at least two or three bottles.

“It is interesting to discuss and compare. We say a lot of nonsense, but that’s what’s fun. It has to remain a pleasure above all”. Frédérick Breysse.

Select wines with slightly different profiles. And follow the usual tasting steps: the view, the nose and the the mouth. With a little practice, you’ll find that your concentration will be tenfold!
