BRUSSELS, A MEMORABLE STOP FOR THE 2017 SAINT-EMILION WINE TRIP

For its second edition, the 2017 Saint-Emilion Wine Trip invaded Brussels in July. A bit like the Tour de France, which visits its European neighbors, the Saint-Emilion Wine Trip stopped in 2017 Brussels les Bains. With their redesigned Citroën HY, the winemakers met Belgian enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the Saint -Emilion wines. On the program, sun, sand and tasting of the four Saint-Emilion appellations.

BELGIUM AND SAINT-EMILION WINES: A HISTORY OF FRIENDSHIP

Brussels people with their feet in the sand, all lounge chairs occupied, tantalizing odors from the world’s cuisines: welcome to 2017 Brussels Les Bains. Below a huge fresco dedicated to Corto Maltese, the winemakers parked their vintage truck, from 7th to 13th July. And they did not go unnoticed! “When people saw the truck, they said ‘Saint-Emilion!’ Saint-Emilion!”, says Matthieu Verhaeghe, owner of Château les Ursulines, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. With Alain Buzet, winemaker of Château Robin (Saint-Emilion), they served and advised visitors to Brussels Les Bains. “The people here have a great wine culture”, says Matthieu Verhaeghe, “Saint-Emilion, the grands crus classés, the Merlot, they know about it all. It’s very nice for us to meet people who know our work”.

SAINT-EMILION WINES, WHAT TO TASTE THEM WITH?

With the help of sommelier Frédérick Breysse, the Saint-Emilion winemakers served glasses and sold bottles at estate prices. Among a choice of 16 bottles, they asked their customers in Brussels about their tastes, then they directed them to the wine that corresponded to them. Sometimes with amazing food and wine pairings! “We saw a lot of young people who wanted to eat a pizza. To go with it, they were advised wines that were alittle tannic”,smiled Alain Buzet. On the terrace in front of the Saint-Emilion Wine Trip truck, the wines were tasted with pizzas, beef skewers and potatoes. Others, like Marina Bresciani, enjoy a Saint-Emilion wine with a traditional Flemish carbonade. While visiting the truck, the communication manager of the event felt that the Saint-Emilion wines had found their place.

“Having the little truck with us really is a plus. The wine is a friendly product that perfectly matches the demand of the people and the atmosphere we want to create in Brussels Les Bains”.

THE 2017 SAINT-EMILION WINE TRIP CONTINUES

After its stop in Brussels, the 2017 Saint-Emilion Trip hits the road again. The concept is always the same: offer a wide choice of wines from Saint-Emilion, with prices by the glass ranging from 3 to 5 euros. The Saint-Emilion winemakers are there to advise you with your tasting. You will be able to find them in Paris aboard their redesigned Citroën HY for the 2017 Montmartre Harvest Festival.

While waiting, see them again from 13th to 15th October, 2017, here is the video of the 2016 edition, which the Saint-Emilion Wine Trip truck participated in.
