READY TO PHILOSOPHIZE AT THE HEART OF A UNIQUE VINEYARD?

It’s “Power” which will be the focus of the ninth edition of the Philosophia Festival, from 27th to 31st May 2015. Some 5,000 people are expected in Saint-Emilion, Libourne and Pomerol to attend the conferences, debates, lectures and animations for young audience.

AN EDITION "FESTIVE, DENSE AND RICH"

For Cécile Dégrois, Chief delegate of the Philosophia Festival, three words describe the 2015 edition: “Festive, dense and rich”. Why festive? Because “there is a beautiful heritage setting that gives special resonance to the philosophical speech,” she explains. Participating in heated debates at the heart of such a prestigious vineyard makes Philosophia a very unique festival. To make it the more friendly,

tastings in the presence of wine producers will be organized at the end of the discussions, in partnership with the Saint-Emilion Wine Concil. The program is also “dense and rich”, carefully thought by the Scientific Committee of the festival. “We have diversified as much as we could the format of the proposed programs: classic meetings, film screenings, theatrical events, workshops for children, lectures, etc.”, says Cécile Dégrois.

A PARTICULARLY ACCESSIBLE EDITION

Ambitious, the Philosophia Festival is also open to a wider audience. It brings together festivalgoers “Both very experienced in philosophy, teachers or academics, but also novices and the curious. They come looking for lines of thought on everyday issues “, says the Chief delegate. For two years, the festival has seen more and more families participate. This is why the workshops were developed for young people,

including adolescents. “Without the parents, this will allow them to have a more liberated discussions”, adds Cecile Dégrois. Accessible to a great number, Philosophia Festival is also about its layout. Meetings thus take place in three cities: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and Libourne. Please note that Saturday, May 30th a round trip between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion will be available for 15 €  for festivalgoers. More information on the can be found on the site, reservation is required.

THE FACETS OF "POWER", IN THE HEART OF PHILOSOPHIA

This year the Philosophia Festival is interested in “Power”, a multifaceted theme never very far from the present. What lets the guests and festivalgoers stroll along the paths of thought. “We’ll go from a conference on the corporate power to a meeting on the taste of wine from a sociological point of view”, explains Cécile Dégrois. They will also discuss “religious and political power, new philosophical practices, power of technology or power of words”, she adds.

To facilitate these exchanges, the list of speakers is long. Philosophers, writers, sociologists, historians, politicians will be present, among them Jean-Claude Carriere, Vincent Cespedes, Raphaël Enthoven, Alain Finkielkaut, Michel Rocard, Olivier Pourriol, Mazarine Pingeot and many others.

The Philosophia Festival is completely free, thanks to the partners and volunteer commitment. Do not forget to book for “Philosophical Walks” and “Workshops” at 05 33 03 06 85 or contact@festival-philosophia.com.
