What is your role on the estate?

As manager of EARL Vignobles Coureau, I look after the winery and all the mechanical work. Each working season has its own charm and I really enjoy following the cycle of the vines.

However, the stage I enjoy the most is tasting the grapes just at harvest time. This validates all the work done during the year and determines the date of the harvest.

You are one of the 24 "Coups de Cœur 2022" of Saint-Emilion Wines. How do you feel about this?

"We're very pleased with this result, as the cup is a reward for the consistency of our wines and our work."

Can you tell us about your estate?

A family property for several generations, the farm is located in the commune of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens.

It was first run by my grandmother, who grew a wide variety of crops (cereals, livestock, vines, etc.). Then, in 1977, my parents, Michel and Arlette, decided to devote themselves solely to the vine. After some work on the vats and in the vineyard, in 1980 they started selling direct. This is how our two cuvées “Clos le Brégnet” and “Château l’Ancien Orme” came into being. My parents devoted a lot of energy to developing and restructuring the vineyard. In 1998, with a BTS in wine-making and oenology under my belt, I joined them on the estate. When I arrived, I helped my parents with all the work in the vineyard and cellar. In 2001, I went on to create the ‘La Perle du Brégnet’ cuvée. Today, I work with my wife Cécile, who joined me in 2007.

Our vineyard covers 13Ha50. We cultivate our vines in the traditional way, using the latest techniques with the sole aim of producing the best grapes possible. These grapes, so pampered throughout the year, are the essential basis for making a great wine, while respecting the environment.

Our vineyard is certified HVE (High Environmental Value). This label is a commitment that recognises our efforts to preserve nature.

Can you tell us about the winning vintage?

This wine comes from vines with an average age of 40 years.

After fermentation, the wine is matured in vats for 18 months.

Clos le Brégnet has a ruby colour with fuchsia highlights. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red fruit (raspberry, cherry), mixed with toasty spicy notes. On the palate, the attack is straightforward, with a good, round tannic structure.
This wine can be kept for at least ten years.

Can you suggest a food and wine pairing with the winning wine?

Clos Le Brégnet goes perfectly with red meat, game or duck breast.
