THE COUPE DES CRUS DE SAINT-EMILION, ORGANISED BY THE SAINT-EMILION WINE COUNCIL SINCE 1999, REVEALS THE MANY FACETS OF SAINT-EMILION
The 19th edition took place on December 10, 2018 at the CAPC Musée d’Art Contemporain in Bordeaux, in the presence of Yves Beck, patron of the edition, Swiss journalist and columnist, well known for his outspokenness and his presence on social networks under the name “Beckustator”.
This tradition for Saint-Emilion wines now brings together journalists, professionals and great wine lovers each year for a joint tasting to award the 24 “Coups de Coeur”.
The Saint-Emilion Wine Council also invites to this event future professionals, passionate volunteers selected from French schools.
This year, the competition included students from the Institut de la Vigne et du Vin de Bordeaux, or even from the ICOP Paris.
SOME FIGURES…
This #instantsaintemilion out of the ordinary was shared this year by more than 100 people who had the pleasure of tasting 147 different wines in 5 categories: Puisseguin Saint-Émilion, Lussac Saint-Émilion, Saint-Émilion, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
AN ORIGINAL BLIND TASTING
The principle and originality of this competition: three jurors taste two vintages blindly over 3 vintages (2014, 2015, 2016) during qualifying matches. The wine with the most memberships is selected for the next match. The unselected wine is definitively eliminated and the winner then meets another wine that has also won its duel. The resulting panel highlights 24 favourites of Saint-Emilion, representative of the beautiful diversity of these appellations.
At the end of a beautiful evening, after close matches, the results fall…
To drink or to keep, the selected wines are so many choices to discover.
A PRESTIGIOUS PROMOTION
The “Coups de Coeur selection” is then highlighted throughout the year.
A presentation booklet of the selection is given to the press and sent to professionals (wine merchants, restaurateurs, etc.). The Coups de Coeur are presented during tastings to journalists from national and international media. These wines are also presented during the Primeurs’ campaign, during the workshops of the Salon Dégustation or on the occasion of special events.
A COMPETITION THAT RECOGNIZES THE REGULARITY AND QUALITY OF EACH VINTAGE
The Coupe des Crus des Vins de Saint-Emilion is above all a competition that rewards the love of a living terroir and promotes long-term work.
It is a true recognition of regularity in quality even if each vintage is different. We would therefore like to thank and congratulate all the wines in competition for their tenacity and their love of our dear terroir.
Yves Beck concluded: “What interests the consumer is what he is enjoying now. That’s why I agreed to be the sponsor of the 2018 Coupe des Crus. I like the approach! We are here in an approach identical to that of the consumer. You like it or you don’t like it. I like this operation very much and I had a very pleasant evening! ».
