2024 Favourites – Château de la Grenière Cuvée de la Chartreuse
Château de la Grenière is a family estate located in Lussac Saint-Emilion. For 4 generations, the Dubreuil family has handed down this vineyard of over 14 hectares.
On the limino-sandy, limino-clay terroir, they produce elegant wines that can be described in 3 words: elegant, fresh and balanced.
At the head of the estate today are father Jean-Pierre Dubreuil and son Audren Dubreuil.
Find out more about their participation in the Coupe des Crus, the history of the estate and the Château de la Grenière – Cuvée de la Chartreuse.
I’m the winemaker and oenologist at Vignobles Dubreuil. I’m the 5th generation to work on this 14-hectare estate.
Château de la Grenière dates back to the 17th century. It was purchased by the Dubreuil family in 1914, and has been passed down from generation to generation ever since.
La Cuvée de la Chartreuse, elected Coup de Cœur (favourite) at the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion, is elegant, fresh and well-balanced.
For our Château de la Grenière wine, we have 4 or 5 types of soil with several variations. Each of these soil types will produce a cuvée because each soil has a specific terroir.
This terroir aspect is very important to us. We try to transcribe the soil and climate of a given place in our wines. As a result, our wines are relatively fine, dense and elegant.
I’d say our way of working. It differs from Bordeaux methods in that we work by soil type, by terroir. For Château de la Grenière – Cuvée de la Chartreuse, we’re on a gravelly terroir, and with have the chance to count old vines of over 80 years old.
For the Cuvée de la Chartreuse, which is one of the favourite wines, we’ve won for two years running. The 2018-2019 vintages can be drunk now, but I recommend waiting for the 2020-2021 vintages.
Overall, these are wines that can be kept for over 10 years.
As a main course or dessert, Cuvée de la Chartreuse goes well with a variety of dishes. Personally, I like it with a tournedos rossini in Madeira sauce, or why not a black forest for dessert !
We’ve been taking part for over a decade, and have already been “Coup de Coeur” 3 times. It gives us greater visibility, whether on social networks or at events like the Saint-Emilion Wine Trip aux Halles de Bacalan on May 25 & 26, 2024 in Bordeaux.
I’m very proud ! Particularly because it’s the work of several generations that I’d like to highlight: my great-grandfather, my grandfather, my father… Each generation has brought its know-how and contributed to the development of our estate, working our terroir to magnify our wines.
At the Maison du Vin de Saint-Emilion or directly at the property !
