Every year, the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion honours 24 winners.
These men and women work day after day to produce wines that live up to the quality and environmental commitment of Saint-Emilion wines.
Find out more about these properties in Lussac Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, as well as the Grands Crus Classés.
Today, we meet Audrey and Pierre LAURET from Château Pindefleurs, a family estate in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru AOC.
2024 Favourites – Château Pindefleurs
Château Pindefleurs is a family estate located just a few minutes from the village of Saint-Emilion. Audrey and Pierre are the 4th generation of winegrowers in their family, and together they manage the entire estate.
Brother and sister, they tell us more about the history of this beautiful property in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation and reveal what makes Château Pindefleurs so special, so that you get a wine of exceptional finesse.
Audrey: We are brother and sister and co-managers of Château Pindefleurs. I’m in charge of production and winemaking.
Pierre: And I’m in charge of distribution and wine tourism.
Audrey: For me, Pindefleurs is all about family, but it’s also a wine that’s about sharing, and one that you can describe as easy-going!
Pierre: Pindefleurs is a fruity wine with great balance and finesse. A Saint-Emilion Grand Cru that we invite you to discover!
In our Château, it’s the woman who makes the wine and the man who sells it. It’s a bit of a change from the other family estates in the appellation.
Château Pindefleurs is a family business. We work here as a family, and we also are the 4th generation of winegrowers in our family.
Although we’ve been in the vineyards for several generations, the Pindefleurs adventure is a more recent one, as our mother bought the estate in 2006.
Audrey’s first vintage as winemaker at the estate dates back to 2009. As for Pierre, he joined Pindefleurs in 2016 to take charge of all sales.
What’s quite unique is the way the wines are matured. The wine is matured in 300-litre barrels, which differs from the traditional 225-litre barrels used in Bordeaux.
This allows us to oak the wine a little less, but with finer wood. So these are more premium barrels, which will bring more finesse to Pindefleurs.
Pindefleurs can be enjoyed between 4 and 10 years to reach its peak, but with great vintages it can easily be kept for up to fifteen years.
With younger vintages, you can really go for spicy dishes to accompany Pindefleurs. After that, this wine is bound to go well with meat such as côte de boeuf (prime rib), with fairly powerful dishes.
After that, with a slightly older vintage, for example when it’s more than 10-15 years old, it will go better at the end of a meal, with a dessert or something a little lighter.
We started taking part in the Coupe des Crus as soon as we created Pindefleurs, so our first participation dates back to 2006. Since then, we’ve presented our wines every year.
It’s an original and effective competition. It gives us an idea of the wines over time and their consistency by presenting several vintages from the different estates. And the 1 vs 1 aspect is fatal, because in the end we’ll have the best vintage that finishes in first place.
Obviously, we’re very proud! It’s not the first time though, we’ve already been Coup de Cœur in 2019, which confirms the consistency of our wines.
Now we’re waiting for next year to try and win again!
You are very welcome to visit Château Pindefleurs.
We do the visits ourselves. We’ll take the time to show you our vines, our cellars and let you taste our wines.
