VISIT THE SAINT-EMILION PORTES OUVERTES FROM 1ST TO 3RD MAY 2015.

At Château Gaillard, Catherine Papon-Nouvel introduces you to the methods of organic farming and to the discovery of her organic wines.

A WORSKSHOP ON DISBUDDING THE VINES

Catherine Papon-Nouvel, owner of Château Gaillard, makes the most of the Saint-Emilion Portes Ouvertes: “To show that organic farming is not disconnected from reality, it is respectful of the environment and the people who work with it”. Visitors can learn

about the organic farming practices through a workshop on disbudding the vines. An educational approach: “To explain what it really means to make organic wine” and to have the Ecocert certification, which allows to use the term ‘organic’ product.

QUALITY ORGANIC WINES

As head of this vineyard owned by her family for over 300 years, Catherine Papon-Nouvel has been committed for 15 years to this process of organic farming and seeks to demonstrate that “Contrary to popular belief, we can develop a quality organic wine “. Because organic viticulture: “Demands more care,

more labor and therefore a greater investment”, this alternative to conventional agriculture allows “To increase the quality of our wines with grapes that have more fruit, which are brighter”. You can verify this by yourself at the winetasting organized during the Saint-Emilion Portes Ouvertes 2015 at Château Gaillard!

TASTING OF THE 2014 VINTAGE

Even though Catherine Papon-Nouvel practices organic viticulture, her working methods are also derived from a long family tradition. At Château Gaillard, “elegant wines aged in oak barrels, just like a classic Saint-Emilion wine” are developed. Catherine Papon-Nouvel will let you taste them and discover the ‘primeur’ of the 2014 vintage, during the 1st and 3rd  May 2015. “A wine with Cabernet Franc that brings some structure and acidity with tannins, allows the wine to age well”,says Catherine Papon-Nouvel.

An opportunity to also discover the previous vintages of Château Gaillard, fruit of this land “rather with sand” in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, “composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc”.

To discover the 2014 vintage of Château Gaillard and introduce yourself to organic viticulture visit the Saint-Emilion Portes Ouvertes during 1st, 2nd and 3rd May 2015!
