On 31st January 2022, at the end of the Coupe des Crus de Saint-Emilion, 24 wines were chosen as “Coups de Cœur 2022” by a jury of professionals! Château Pas de l’Ane, a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, was one of the winners. Nicolas BAPTISTE, 54, is its director. Find out more about this winemaker and his wine!
I’m the property manager. As such, I’m in charge of its general management: administration, sales and production.
For me, the highlights are receiving customers, but also developing the estate and the wines.
"The partners and staff are delighted with this Coup de Cœur and very proud to be highlighted and represent the appellation for a year."
The estate was created from scratch in 1999. It began with a small parcel of land in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrence at a place called Pas de l’Ane. Today, the parcels of land are widely scattered across the communes of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrence (gravelly sand) and Saint-Christophe des Bardes (clay-limestone) for the second wines and the commune of Saint-Etienne de Lisse (clay-limestone plateau) for the first wine. All the wines are Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
Since 2018, we have been HVE3 and AREA2 certified.
From the outset, our estate has differentiated itself by identifying itself and attaching the image of the donkey to its label and pink capsule. Don’t forget that this animal is quite symbolic, since it is said to be the origin of our vineyard pruning.
Château Pas de l’Ane is characterised by the spice and structure of its 45% Cabernet Franc and 55% Merlot blend. The wines are aged for around 15 months in new barrels only.
Since the 2018 vintage, 15 to 20% of the volume has come from full vinification (225-litre barrels).
Château Jacques Noir goes very well with grilled red meats, game and sauces. You can also enjoy it with slightly spicy dishes, cheese or chocolate desserts.
