FROM THE 2015 SAINT-EMILION JAZZ FESTIVAL WAS BORN A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP: THE ONE WHICH NOW BINDS THE SOUL DIVA CHINA MOSES WITH THE WINEMAKERS OF SAINT-EMILION.
Before an intimate concert at Château Pavie, the young woman was inducted to the Jurade de Saint-Emilion. Moments of shared pleasures for those who consider wine as a great excuse to meet.
CHINA MOSES, A WOMAN OF HER WORD
You should have seen China Moses during her concert at Château Pavie, speaking to the public as if she was talking to each and every person. The young woman ginned her compositions, stopping between songs to tell a story or share a story: “For me it is very important to talk to the public, as did Frank Sinatra and Nancy Wilson. It is an old tradition for singers to know how to introduce their song”.
A way for her to set a mood, smooth out the viewer of the previous song, inviting them into the world of the next. To explain her art , China Moses has a fun picture, “it’s like the glass of water between two wine tastings. We must gently put the palate in a position to appreciate the following wine. Here, it’s like calming the mind before entering another song”.
THE WINES OF SAINT-EMILION, JUST LIKE JAZZ NUMBERS
If China Moses compares music to wine tasting, it is because she sees a real community of thought between jazz musicians and the winemakers of Saint-Emilion. For her, a song is composed as is a great wine: “for a song, we all share the same notes. Winemakers also work from the same grapes.
It is the winemaker who then gives personality to the wine”. Raised with the best jazz and soul sounds, the daughter of Dee Dee Bridgwater likens the wines of Saint-Emilion with classic jazz “jazz numbers have very different sounds depending on the person who interprets them . There is a direct correlation with the development of a wine”.

If China Moses is now keen on red wine, this has not always been the case. Her mother is a big fan of wines of Saint-Emilion, but it is later on that China really got interested in them. During the Saint-Emilion Jazz Festival, China Moses gladly lent herself to the game of Musical tasting. On the improvisations of Grégory Privat, Sonny Troupé and Gustav Kalstrom,
China Moses discovered the wines of the seven young winemakers from the “Arômes de Jeunesse” association. “I found it very refreshing to discover the wines of winemakers of my generation, that combine tradition and modernity. I felt very comfortable, I think I found my new band”,smiles China Moses. By inducting China Moses, the Jurade de Saint-Emilion has found a true ambassador.
