#WinegrowerPortrait : Christian DAURIAC
What is your role on the property?
I am the owner and deeply passionate and invested in the life of my property.
Can you tell us about your wine estate?
Located on one of the two highest points of Saint-Emilion, Château Destieux, a single property, dominates the Dordogne valley.
For nearly 50 years, Château Destieux has belonged to the Dauriac family, who have passionately maintained the constant progress of this vineyard, with a single ambition: to do everything possible in the vineyard as well as in the cellar to produce each year a concentrated wine, both elegant and full-bodied, the aristocratic expression of a privileged terroir. Château Destieux was promoted to Grand Cru Classé of St Emilion in 2006.
YOU ARE ONE OF THE 24 "COUPS DE CŒUR 2023" OF THE SAINT-EMILION WINES. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?
"It was with great pleasure that we learned of the selection of our wine in the "Coups de Cœur", which comforts us and rewards a team for all the work provided to produce a quality wine."
Can you tell us about the awarded vintage?
Deep, dark garnet color. Floral notes, dense and juicy fruit. Powerful and silky texture, black fruit aromas mingle with spicy nuances. The wine unfolds in the middle of the mouth. The tannins are of great finesse and reveal themselves in the finish. This 2019 Destieux, rich and delicate, hints at a great wine in the making.
Can you suggest a food and wine pairing with the vintage?
It will perfectly be paired with white grilled meats.
A fun fact you can share with us ?
Chateau Destieux is located on the second highest geographical point of the St Emilion appellation, enjoying an exceptional “point de vue” (point of view) on the vineyards and the Dordogne Valley, hence the contraction “Des Yeux” (eyes) into Destieux.
The final word
Thank you to the Saint-Emilion Wine Council for the support and the promotion of our wines during their various events of this year 2023.
