Bee Friendly label: a commitment to protecting pollinators

certification beefriendly à saint emilion

Pollinating insects play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and ecosystems, but their population is in alarming decline. The Bee Friendly label guarantees sustainable agriculture and encourages the adaptation of practices to preserve pollinators.

By joining this movement, Saint-Émilion’s winegrowers are actively contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of their agriculture. By protecting bees and other pollinators, they also contribute to the quality and authenticity of the region’s wines.

Bee Friendly certification commitments

Bee Friendly certification represents a genuine commitment to responsible agriculture, which means adapting our practices and taking care of all foragers.

Certified wine estates are therefore committed to provide suitable habitats for bees, avoid the use of pesticides harmful to pollinators and adopt respectful cultivation methods.

This label is recognized as a level 2 environmental certification. These constraints imply a thorough review of agricultural production methods and an active commitment to sustainable, responsible practices. By adopting the following measures, winegrowers can play a key role in preserving pollinators:

Ban on the most toxic pesticides: Winegrowers must refrain from using the pesticides most harmful to bees and other pollinators. This includes systemic or broad-spectrum pesticides that can cause significant damage to pollinating insects.

More flowers and biodiversity: Winegrowers should encourage the presence of flowers and a diversity of plants on their farms. This can involve setting up flower meadows, planting plant species attractive to pollinators, and preserving natural habitats conducive to their development.

Links with local beekeepers: Winegrowers should establish partnerships with local beekeepers, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of information on best practices for protecting bees.
