The origins of this book start in the memory of Daniel Rey, who discovered the Saint-Emilion wines at a notable tasting: “there were many grands crus and the discovery of this Bacchus fruit kept us busy most of the night!”. “He had such a great memory of this event that naturally, we wanted to come back” his wife Geneviève adds.
At the head of a collection of works on wine properties’ interiors, the couple found Saint-Emilion to be the perfect subject for their book: “here, it’s a village, a crus community, there’s really a particular spirit”. It is everywhere and illustrated by a wine which is “generous, round, copious. I like to see it as Gargantua or Pantagruel!” as Daniel Rey says. “Sharing is also important, you don’t drink wine on your own.” adds his wife.
The spirit of Saint-Emilion, they’ve also met it through people who make those wines alive! They are characterized by their passion, their investment, as Geneviève Rey also states: “they are rooted in the earth, its values, have the head in the stars and like to take risks”. When tradition and dreams meet, the result is magic!
